Explanation of the DASH
Living in the DASH of one's life bears two meanings. One may look at the word DASH as it appears on
a tombstone, on which many print the dates of birth and expiration of an individual with a DASH
between the two. This DASH represents your life. If you are reading this, it means that you are
currently living in the DASH of your life. You may know the date you were born, the date that
appears on your birth certificate. The unknown date, invisible until the end, marks the end of your
life as you know it, and appears at the end of the DASH.
DASH has other meanings as well, and they all signify a small amount, or an abrupt action. A DASH of sugar is a small amount, hardly more than a pinch. DASH can also mean to rush, race, or perform other hasty or sudden movements. The symbol that represents a DASH (-) is used to represent an abrupt break in a sentence, or a hesitation in utterance. The only case in which a DASH represents a longer duration, is when used as a signal in Morse code, and even here its existence is quite brief.
